Who we serve

We do our best work with a specific kind of person.

Birch Point was built for people who’ve worked hard, built meaningful wealth, and are ready to think carefully about what comes next.

The financial profile

Where you are financially.

The clients we work with are at the point where the question shifts from “how do I build this?” to “how do I make it work for the rest of my life?”

  • You've built meaningful wealth over a long career and now your focus is making it work efficiently for the long term.
  • You’re within five to ten years of making work optional, actively transitioning, or already in retirement looking for a planning relationship that reflects the full complexity of where you are.
  • Your financial picture has some complexity — a mix of account types, stock or deferred compensation, pensions, or multiple income sources that benefit from integrated planning.
  • You understand the value of paying a fair fee for excellent advice and are looking for the right long-term partner, not simply the lowest fee.
  • You want one integrated relationship — advisers who know your full picture, not a firm where you're handed off to whoever answers the phone.
Clients we work with

The people who tend to find us.

The dual-income couple

Two professionals at different retirement timelines with different visions for what comes next. Getting aligned — on the finances and on the future — is as important as the plan itself.

The recently retired

Already out of the workforce and looking for a planning relationship that reflects the full reality of retirement: income, taxes, healthcare, estate planning, and the long term.

The DIY investor, grown

Someone who managed their own investments successfully for years and now recognizes that the retirement transition is different — more complex, more consequential.

The inherited wealth client

Someone who has received a significant inheritance and needs a thoughtful, integrated plan to manage it well — and to make decisions they won’t second-guess later.

The dissatisfied client

Working with a large firm and feeling like a number. Looking for something more personal and more integrated — advisers who know their name and their full picture.

The established professional

A senior professional or specialist at 55–65 with significant savings and a compensation structure that adds complexity. Financially ready — or nearly there — but hasn’t had someone map it out clearly.

The mindset profile

It’s not just about the numbers.

You want a partner, not a vendor

Someone who knows your full picture, brings ideas proactively, and is genuinely invested in your outcome.

You’re engaged, not passive

You show up to meetings prepared, you’re curious about your plan, and you make decisions thoughtfully.

You value honesty over comfort

We’ll tell you what we think — even when it’s not what you were hoping to hear.

You’re ready to think about what’s next

The clients who do best with Birch Point are genuinely curious about what the next chapter looks like, not avoiding the question.

Fit — and when we’re not the right fit

We’re honest about who we serve best.

We’re likely a strong fit if…

  • +You’ve built meaningful wealth and are within 10 years of — or already in — retirement.
  • +You’re looking for an integrated planning relationship, not just investment management.
  • +You want a financial plan built around your specific goals and timeline.
  • +You want a fee-only, fiduciary firm with no commissions and no product sales.
  • +You’re ready for a genuine, long-term planning relationship.

‍We may not be the right fit if…

  • —You’re primarily focused on active trading or speculative investing.
  • —You’re in early accumulation and not yet approaching retirement.
  • —You’re shopping primarily for the lowest possible advisory fee.
  • —You prefer minimal contact and a fully hands-off advisory relationship.
  • —You need tax preparation, legal services, or insurance products we don’t provide.

If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you — and do our best to point you in a better direction. That’s what a fiduciary does.

Common questions

Questions we hear most from prospective clients.

See ALL FAQs →
Do you work with both spouses or partners?

Yes, and we consider it essential. Both people are in the meetings, both people understand the plan, and both people have a direct relationship with us — not just one person who relays information to the other.

What does it cost to work with you?

Our planning engagements are fee-only — you pay us directly and we don’t earn commissions on anything we recommend. Our minimum annual fee is $7,500. If you’re approaching retirement with a 401(k) or other accounts that will roll over, we’re happy to talk through whether it makes sense.

I’ve never worked with a financial adviser. How do I know if I need one?

Some of our most rewarding client relationships are with people who
managed things successfully on their own for years. The transition to
retirement is genuinely different — and many people find that having a
second set of eyes is worth it at this stage.

I already have a financial adviser. Why would I switch?

Some clients come to us after working with someone else. The most common reasons: their current adviser focuses only on the portfolio, or the relationship feels impersonal at a larger firm. If that resonates, it’s worth a conversation.

Do I need to be local to Maine?

No. Most of our planning meetings happen virtually. We hold in-person meetings at our Maine office when clients prefer it.

What does the first conversation involve?

A straightforward call or video meeting — we learn about your
situation, you get a sense of how we work, and we give you an honest
read on fit. No obligation, no pressure. If we’re not the right match, we’ll do our best to point you in a better direction.
